On Building in Public

A rough note on the idea of building in public and why it feels uncomfortable but useful.

18 Feb 2026

Building in public means sharing the process, not just the outcome. It’s uncomfortable because it exposes the mess: the half-finished ideas, the wrong turns, the weeks where nothing moved.

But the discomfort is the point. It forces clarity. You can’t explain something vaguely in public without someone noticing. You can’t pretend to understand something you don’t.

Some practical things I’ve noticed:

  • Writing about a problem before solving it often reveals the solution.
  • Sharing early drafts gets better feedback than sharing finished work.
  • The audience that matters is future-you, not present-others.

This note is itself an example: rough, incomplete, but written down rather than staying in my head.

Right then. I need a cup of tea.
